Yes! I know it’s been months later, but can we just take yet another minute to reflect on the beauty that was Avengers: Endgame? If you’ve still not watched it at this point, I cannot help you. Don’t worry, this article is not entirely about Endgame (even though that won’t be a bad idea now would it?). It’s an article on hope.
One of my favorite lines from the whole movie was one said by Hawk-eye when Black widow met him.
Black widow: we found something…a chance maybe
Black widow: Don’t what?
Hawk-eye: Don’t give me hope
I believe on some level, everyone can relate with Hawk-eye’s pain: A business that didn’t go as planned, even after all the excitement and research put into it… a failed relationship, even after all the sincere promises made… the death of a loved one to a sickness, even after showing signs of recovery. Life is full of those kinds of moments. Moments where hopes don’t necessarily become reality.
But what is more amazing to me is how humans just keep on hoping. It’s as though we were “wired” that way. To think that despite Hawk-eye’s apparent hopelessness, he could still go about with the time travel plan shows that humans would fight to preserve whatever bit of hope they have left.
Today, I am here to give you hope.
To those of you who feel like there’s nothing worth living for. To those of you who feel like all of life is just a scam, I’m here to tell you exactly what black widow said.
Black widow: I’m sorry I couldn’t give it to you sooner.
Trust me, if all there was to life was our time here on earth, then there really won’t be much to it would there? You read your head off to get the best of grades, work your body away to establish a sustainable business, to what end? To pass the baton on to your children to continue the same cycle, over and over again.
Fortunately, what I have for you is a hope that goes beyond your time here on earth. A hope that reaches on to eternity. I love the way it is said here:
Tit 1:1 – Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness–
Tit 1:2 – a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,
What Jesus did, offers all of man kind hope. Hope that there would be a world without pain, without suffering, without death, without sickness. Hope that there would actually be a time where everyone exists in true love and peace. It may sound like a fairytale, but I assure you it’s not.
The same way Hawk-eye was able to believe that there was this one shot at getting his family back, I put it to you that there is this one shot at eternal bliss with God: Faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
So my friend, no matter what this life throws at you, through faith in this message, you can confidently face it knowing that we have a hope for something that greatly outweighs the present. It is this hope that makes even our life now, worth living.
