GOOD GOD: EVIL WORLD

Have you ever found yourself in the congregation while your pastor shouted “God is good” and everyone just went “All the time”. And you’re like, “What?” Where on earth did that come from? If God is good what’s with all the evil in the world? Well I’m here to answer these questions. Shall we?

Before we continue, I would like to establish this, God is good all the time. In fact, I dare to go even further by saying, “God Is Good. Always Good. Never Bad. Don’t worry. I will explain.

In the bible, James tells us this:
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” ~ James 1:17

This statement is so profound and from it, a lot of things can be noted.

God is the cause of all good. No good is self-caused or from below, only from God, only good can be traced to God. God cannot change. He is immutable. Who he was million of ages ago, he still is now and he will be for countless of ages to come. In other words, He is always good and will always be good. Our Lord does not get mood swings.

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” ~ 1 John 1:5

This means that God is not just a light, but that God in himself is the fullness of light. God is perfect and there is nothing in him that would stain or mar the pure splendour of his character in any way.‬‬

Now why all the evil in the world if there is a good God? Breaking news: There is a Devil! A very active one who plays major parts in the evils of this world.
Just the way there isn’t only one single actor in an entire movie is the same way God is not the only “actor” in this rather sad “movie”. There’s a devil! When pulling the “Is there a God?” card, it is of utmost importance that you don’t forget that there is a devil also whose work is to steal, kill and destroy.

Now here is another breaking news: We live in a fallen world and I’ll show it to you…

Genesis 1:31 says:
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.”

Definitely, there’s no way God saw any form of disaster and called it good and the reason why is simply that he did not make them!

Ever heard the saying, “In the beginning, it was not so”? Well in this context, it wasn’t actually so in the beginning. God did not create a fallen world! This means that at some point, things turned. It is only logical to reason, that there is no way that God who is good, could have seen at that point all we are seeing now and still called it good. So what turning point was that?

The point where Adam sinned! From that very moment, all forms of sin, evil, and death came as well (Romans 5:12)

Now, if God is good, and always does good and he never changes, this means that he can never do the opposite of good. HE CAN NEVER DO BAD! Knowing this, as believers, we are encouraged because this good God is our Father. And a time is coming when everything will be pure again. All forms of sin, evil and the likes will be wiped out completely. We will be delivered from the presence of sin! While you face trials and temptations, let your mind be at peace. Knowing this, that you have a hope beyond this world.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into diverse temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience.” ~ James 1:2

Do not ever use times of trials as a foundation for your theology about the goodness of God. Settle in your mind that GOD IS GOOD, ALWAYS GOOD AND NEVER BAD.
