“ I lay down my life of my own will, no man takes it away from me, I have power to lay it down and take it again at any point.” (John 10:18).
These were the words of Jesus, the son of God. If only He knew that moments from then, He would be hanged on a cross to die..(but guess what? He did!!)
There He was, hanging on the cross. Before that He had been beaten, slapped multiple times, spat on, laughed at and even mocked to save Himself. He could have as well come down from the cross, tell God He’s not doing again and He was ready to be received back home to heaven where He belongs. He could have told the Father “the people I came to die for are not serious…” and what would have happened if He did? Thank God we don’t have to find out.
Instead, He endured quietly, patiently and even more willingly, that His great love might be introduced and presented to us. The question is WHY? Why on earth would He do such a thing ??
The writer of Hebrews tells us why.
“Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, He thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and He is now seated at the right-hand side of God’s throne.” (Hebrews 12:2 GNB)
The joy ahead of Him was so glorious, the pain was worth it!
There is a popular saying that “lack of knowledge, leads to lack of hope”. I agree because when you don’t know what is set before you, you’ll be easily upset and discouraged. What is set before me? Some might ask.
Well, scripture calls it “ …an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,”
(1 Peter 1:4 KJV)
This is your reward. Jesus secured this reward for everyone that believes in his redemptive work(his death, burial and resurrection). This means the reward that we have is worth the death of Jesus. It must be very big! Fix your eyes on it!
As believers, we can be rest assured that this reward is ours! As sure as it is that we are justified by faith, we are also as good as glorified! (Romans 8:30)
“And most assuredly, I tell you that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ that was demonstrated towards us on the cross. Yes! You heard me! Nothing atall, not troubles, not pain, nor hard times, or hunger, or death, or height, or depth, or things present or even things to come. We are not only conquerors over them, we are more than conquerors”
“Think of what He went through; how He put up with so much hatred from sinners for us! So do not let yourselves become discouraged and give up.” (Hebrews 12:3 GNB)
Dear friends, don’t ever give up!
“knowing that the sufferings of this present times are not worthy to be compared with the glory that will be revealed in us (Romans 8:18)
