Sco pa tu Manaa

In case you’re wondering what that title means, it’s a slang that has gone viral in recent weeks.  According to KnowYourMeme, a meme dictionary site, it is a slang term belonging to Hawaiian culture. It means both “I’ll hit you” and “what experience does this remind you of”.  Following a song release by a Ghanaian musician where the phrase was included, people posted the phrase along with an image so that their followers could share their experiences of the things contained in the images. You simply put up a picture and the phrase “Sco pa tu manaa”.

Let’s play, shall we?

Sco pa tu manaa?

Here in this manger, comforted in the grass, I see your humility. God in all your fullness, stepping down to take the form of man, frail and susceptible to weakness.

You showed this even more as you chose to be born in a shed. It could have been anywhere; a palace, a royal ship, anywhere! Yet you chose the lowly manger, greeted into the world by the beasts of the field.

Here I also see your faithfulness, for over a thousand years, you spoke of the seed to come to several. Right here, you proved to be true to all that you say.

Here I see your love. For on that tree, you died a death that was not yours. You took up the shame you did not deserve and took up the blame you did not earn.

You thought of me and not yourself and gave it all so I could have it all.

As I see that tree, I realized, it could have and probably should have been me. But you would have none of that! You wanted me free and went all the way to making sure that happened.

To that I say, thank you.

Sco pa tu manaa?

Here I see your power, defeating death and the grave forever. For even if you were a man, you proved that you were also God. And as that stone rolled away, all heaven and earth bore record to my never-ending testimony: Jesus is alive!

Here I see my future, the stone that once shut you in now opens me up to believe, that if you walked out, one day I will!

When I look to the heavens, I see you exalted. Seated at the right hand of the father, far above everything that exists.

I don’t just see you; I see myself as well, seated right there.

I’m reminded that you’re coming again, and that there’s work to do!

When I see this book, I see more than just pages with words in them. I see the revealed will of God from start to finish. I see your intentions, from before creation to have a family, a family I could be a part of. I see your heart, in print.

What do you see?

What a beautiful piece. We need to remind ourselves constantly of the beauty of our walk with Christ.
