WHISPERS OF LIES

How much of the enemy’s lies have you been believing? How much of it have you been inclined to believe? Which of it do you think you can’t get out of? What kind of lies have you allowed him whisper to you? Lies of inadequacy as I allowed him whisper to me in the past perhaps? What kind of lies are you used to? Lies that you aren’t smart enough even though the word of the Lord says you have the mind of Christ? Lies that you aren’t beautiful enough though God’s word says you were created in his very own image and likeness? What kinds of lies do you know? These are questions to think about. Questions to reason upon.

The enemy is a very crafty person; he is cunning and subtle in his deceit (Gen 3:1), he whispers lies and tries to plant suggestions in our mind (Gen 3:1) to prevent us from knowing God’s truth which gives life and freedom (John 8:32). He tries to come at us subtly with his lies by mixing them in with some truth, so we might at least think upon it and therefore create a gateway for him to breed more lies.

In Gen 3:1; that was exactly how he came at Eve
He said “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” What exactly could be true in this statement? There was really indeed a tree which they were not allowed to eat from in the Garden of Eden.

He started with what was real and concrete, what could make Eve contemplate the instructions of the Lord, the truth of the Lord thereby opening a gateway for him to bring in more of his lies. In recent times, he may go something like;
“Look at that skinny body of that girl on the TV, you are actually not fine o, remember when a fine guy said that to you last week”. You see what he did there; starting with what is real, there is actually a really pretty girl on the TV and a guy really said that last week. He starts out craftily so that if you begin to dwell on it, the gateway opens and he can begin to breed in more lies. Lies of how your legs are too fat, your nose don’t just fit right and the more one dwells on this lies… gradually he starts to accomplish what John 10:10 said, he starts to steal one’s peace, kill one’s joy and destroy all sense of self-confidence and assurance.

There are so many lies we have perhaps grown to believe, so many we have chosen to grow accustomed to, so many lies we think are truth, some lies we would rather believe. Do not be surprised about the lies the enemy tries to whisper though, Jesus already revealed the type of person he is from the very beginning. (John 8:44d) says, “He (the devil) was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

Lies are his native language so why listen at all? What should be known is that we can shut the gates right at the very beginning. What if we can know enough of God’s word to know what is true, to know the truth that should remain in our lives? What if we could know what God has said about us enough to know the lies of the father of lies? What if we could all act out like Jesus when he was tempted and stop every lie of the enemy with the word of the Lord. (Matt 4). Jesus is our very great example. Look at how he replied the devil’s lies at every turn;

It is written; “Man shall not live by bread alone” “Thou shall worship the Lord thy God and only him shall he serve” “Thou shall not put thy Lord to test”… How many “It is written” are we willing to say? How many gateways are we willing to close? How many truths are we willing to speak against the lies? How many truths are we willing to get accustomed to?
For every lie of the enemy, there is an “it is written”. This we know is true…

  1. Lie: I am not sure I can pass this exam:
  2. Truth = I can do this because I do not have a spirit of fear, but that of power, love and a sound mind (2 Tim 1:7 KJV).
  3. Lie: Nobody likes me
    Truth = I am favoured. “Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.” (Isaiah 43:4)
  4. Lie: I don’t think I can be successful.
    Truth = God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
  5. Lie: I am all alone.
    Truth = “I will never leave nor forsake you.” (Gen 1:28)
    There are so many “it is written” and you can speak them back to all sort of lies that might try to creep in. It is what I am learning to do and what I encourage everyone to do. God doesn’t want us to entertain the lies of the enemy (James 4:7) he wants us to resist him and when we resist him like Jesus did, God assures us that he (the devil) will flee from us.
    The reason why you can do all of this is because the word of the Lord lives inside of you. Because you belong to God and you know his word.
    “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me” John 10:27
    “Whoever belongs to God hears what God says” John 8:47a
    And since you know God’s truth and as you keep on knowing God’s truth, his word, you fight with it, it is your sword. The sword of the spirit. (Eph 6:17).
    “If you know what is true – the word of God – you will be able to fight against that which isn’t true – the lies of the evil one”
    Keep renewing your mind with truth (Romans 12:2), keep demolishing all strongholds and lies that might have tried to set themselves up against the knowledge of the Lord (2 Corin. 10:4-6). Don’t stop until there is nothing left to demolish, until all of God’s truth lives within you. Until all of God’s truth is you. Don’t give up.
