WHY YOU SHOULD FLEE FROM DISCOURAGEMENT

By reading the book of Exodus chapter 6, we would understand the story of the Israelites, how they were tortured, beaten and maltreated by the Egyptians while in their land. Going further however, we would see that the Lord heard their groaning and cries and was working to redeem them and grant them their freedom. This was the word the Lord gave to Moses to give to the Israelites in the book of Exodus.
Words of HOPE. Words of COMFORT. Words to look forward to. And how did the Israelites receive these words?

Moses reported this (the words of the LORD) to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labor.” -Exodus 6:9

Discouragement is a snare of the enemy to get us not to listen to God’s word for us. Discouragement is an antic of the enemy to keep us trapped in the lies our situations tell. The enemy knows that if he can get us discouraged, he can get us trapped, make us refuse the word of the LORD, not give a listening ear to the words from the LORD and forfeit the sweetness and pleasure they bring.

The enemy knows that if he can get us in difficult situations and steal our hope we can be so focused on such situations that we do not hear or listen to the message of hope from God. For this reason we can no longer afford to be discouraged dear beautiful people!

In the Bible, God speaks about this countless of times; Warning us, commanding us and teaching us to stay away from discouragement. He says in Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your GOD will be with you wherever you go”

He said to King Ahaz in Isaiah 7:4 when some powerful kings allied together and were marching up to overpower Jerusalem

be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid – do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood

Didn’t David also speak about the importance of this in 1 Chronicles 28:20 “David also said to Solomon his son,

Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished

What about in Isaiah 41:10, Deuteronomy 31:6, 2nd Thessalonians 3:13, Deuteronomy 31:8, Galatians 6:9 and many other scriptures that you should search for.
What makes you discouraged? The job you haven’t gotten, the wickedness you constantly face, the troubles that don’t seem to end, the boss that wouldn’t give you a break? The past mistakes you keep remembering? What gets you discouraged?

These situations aren’t particular to you and God is speaking to you today and saying… “Do not be discouraged! Stand strong and courageous… do not be discouraged” Would you listen?

Someone may wonder, how can I not be discouraged? How can I trick my mind not to be discouraged? How can anybody not be discouraged in this bad and terrible world?

Do not lean on your own strength: We get so caught up in trying to create a path for ourselves, a niche for ourselves, our own journey, trying to fix our lives by our own strength that we completely neglect the grace of God and as such get seriously burned out and discouraged. According to Jeremiah 17:7, we do not draw strength from “men” strength. We do not draw strength from ourselves. We draw strength from the Lord. (Psalm 44:6-8) We acknowledge him and rely on him (Isaiah 50:10-11). We do not set him aside or run a race without him.

Put your hope in the word of God: Psalm 119:74

May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.”

We do not put our hope in ourselves, we do not put our hope in other people, family or friends, we do not put our hope in this world rather we put our hope in GOD’S WORD. Where have you been placing your hope? What truths have you been holding on to? What truth have you been leaning on? Yours? The world’s truths or God’s Truth! Place your hope in the right place. Place it in him.

Encourage yourself in the lord: “And David encouraged himself in the Lord” (please comment below if you can remember the bible passage this can be found in, you might just win a prize). If mighty King David got discouraged and could apply enough wisdom to encourage himself in the Lord, so should we! Let us imitate those who by faith have obtained what has been promised. (Hebrews 6:12, 13:7). Sing some worship songs, dance to the Lord alone in your room with weird steps, scream Jesus name like crazy, go jogging with the word of the God playing repeatedly on your headphones, love some people, read God’s word to yourself. Stay creative in how you want to encourage yourself. God is with you in those moments.

Do not see as the situation is: Yeah, the situation might be so bad, the pain might be overwhelming, you might just have been fired, the government in your country might still be as corrupt as ever and the story might look like it is worsening but, the one who sees clearly is the one who sees according to what the word of God says and not what the realities of your situation communicates.

Balaam was a prophet who saw clearly (Numbers 24: 3-4). To see clearly is not to see with our physical eyes but our spiritual eyes. It is to see with the word of the LORD. Which is a lamp and as a guiding light for us. Sure, the situation looks this way but what does God’s word say about it. Hold onto that word.

This is a command for us to obey: And we can obey it! (Ezekiel 36:27). And we should obey it and walk humbly in it because he requires this of us (Micah 6:8). He has commanded us and his commands are not burdensome (1 John 5:3), they rather bring life and peace. It is a command from the LORD for us,

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your GOD will be with you wherever you go” – Joshua 1:9.

There is a message from the LORD for you today, would you be as discouraged as the Israelites not to listen to it or would you flee from discouragement and hear the voice of the LORD today? Comment below. What would you do?

Prayer for this moment: Dear Father, I humbly repent from all the ways I have gone against your word and stayed discouraged. I ask that you destroy and cast out all spirit of discouragement from me right now in Jesus Name. I ask for your peace to reign right now and for your grace for me to stay strong and courageous. To be encouraged in you. Amen.

P.S: Don’t stop praying. Much love. Enjoy your day today. Smile a lot. Love difficult people. Lean on God’s grace. Stay blessed. Peace out

This was really amazing. I really needed this. Staying encouraged isn’t easy but we have to, always no matter what is thrown in our faces.
